Born and educated in Zimbabwe, Doug emigrated to South Africa in 1980. In 1989 Doug and his wife Sue started Floriseeds, a flower seed company based in Gauteng. As one of the world's top flower breeders, Doug has many varieties in the world market, many of which are acknowledged to be the best in their class. As testament to Dougs skill as plant breeder he won a prestigious All American Award for one of his flowers in 2006 and in 2008 he repeated his achievement. This is probably the highest honour anyone can achieve in the plant breeding world. Doug and his family have travelled extensively in Southern Africa, Tanzania and the outer islands of the Seychelles. His favourite spot is the Grumeti River in the Serengeti, often referred to as the wild, wild west, as there's always something happening - like walking to breakfast with the Grumeti pride (lions) - that certainly beats being stuck in traffic!
